CHH former CEO Chris Liddell now Microsoft chief financial officer

Former Carter Holt Harvey chief executive Chris Liddell has been appointed Microsoft’s new chief financial officer.

One-time CHH CEO Chris Liddell, who holds an engineering degree from the University of Auckland and a master of philosophy degree from Oxford, has in recent years been senior vice president and chief financial officer at CHH parent International Paper.

Now he has been appointed chief financial officer at Microsoft, effective 9 May.

The IP announcement of the move was issued by another former CHH CEO, John Faraci, who is now IP’s chairman and CEO.

Mr Faraci said Mr Liddell’s CFO role would be filled on an interim basis by long-time IP executive vice president Marianne M. Parrs.

In his new role Mr Liddell will lead Microsoft’s global finance organization and will have responsibility for accounting and reporting, strategic planning and analysis, treasury, tax, audit, and investor relations.

Mr Liddell said in a statement he was attracted to Microsoft by its high levels of passion and optimism.

“The tremendous level of optimism, energy and passion for excellence at Microsoft was a major factor behind why I am delighted to take on this opportunity,” Mr Liddell said.

“Given Microsoft’s track record of innovation, outstanding people and proven ability to create value, the opportunities that lie ahead are nearly limitless,” he said

Both companies were effusive in their praise of Mr Liddell, who was known here as a cost-cutter and innovative manager.

“Chris brings great talent and skills both in finance and in business leadership,” said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft. “Having been both CEO and CFO of international companies gives him the ability to contribute broadly to our finance, operations and business strategy.”
