Shooting in School Shocks US
10 people were killed and a dozen injured when the student shot and killed his grandparents and then went on a shooting rampage in a Minnesota high school before committing suicide, according to local media. The shooting occurred around 3:00 pm (21:00 GMT) at Red Lake High School in a rural town in the northern part of the state. The school is located on an Indian reservation and has more than 300 students, according to its website.
The Local media said that the shooter killed his grandparents before heading to the school armed with three guns. Then he reportedly killed a male security guard outside the school before entering the premises and opening fire on students in a corridor. Prior to the afternoon school shooting, the student shot dead a couple at a home on the reservation, McCabe said.
The couple was the gunman’s grandparents who lived in the Village of Red Lake, other officials said. The grandfather was identified on the tribe’s Web site as tribal police officer Daryl “Dash” Lussier.
It’s the nation’s worst school shooting since 1999 at Columbine. So far, there’s no indication of the gunman’s motive. His name has not been released. The FBI says six students, including the gunman were killed at the school, along with a teacher and a security guard. Several other students were hurt. News 18 and ABC News will have much more about the investigation on Tuesday.
