Smoking kills millions in India
Tobacco has been the reason for the death of at least one in five men and one in twenty women in India in the age group of 30 to 69.The research on smoking and tobacco in India were studied at the Center for Global Health Research.
The lead author of the study Prabhat Jha said that the Indian take up smoking later in age as compared to the west but they get killed even when they take fewer cigarettes because they are more sensitive to lung diseases like TB .The researchers said that smokers in India loose at least six years of their age. The smoking problem is more prominent in poor and illiterate Indians.
