Veerappan’s widow alleges threat by STF
The widow of veerappan says that she is facing the danger of her life from the police of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka after her request for the second post-mortem of veerapan. “My life is in danger and so are the lives of my two daughters,” Muthulakshmi said at a press conference organised here by a group of rights groups. She alleged that police is threating that if she cointinue on this issue that police will excute the warrents against her.
Meanwhile, the fact-finding team, comprising members from 10 civil liberties organisations and individuals, including from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, said Veerappan’s killing was through a “fake encounter.” Based on the “evidence and information” gathered by it, the team was of the opinion that Veerappan and his men were very much in STF custody “at least two days before the fake encounter and they were tortured and murdered”, Prof Ramasamy of People’s Democratic Forum and Haribabu, a lawyer, alleged.
They said Tamil Nadu government should register a murder case against STF men involved in the “encounter” and order a probe by a sitting High Court Judge. The Tamil Nadu STF shot dead Veerappan, who was wanted for smuggling, poaching and numerous murders, in October last year after trapping him with the help of a decoy. (PTI)
